Bhangra music actually came from the UK stemming from the Punjabi diaspora. the original of the music stalls from the folk music of Punjabi but mixes western pop together with this traditional folk music, mixing traditional instruments with western music styles together, such as pop and rock. it was originally a dance form.

It grew in popularity in the 70s, "The new genre quickly became popular in Britain replacing Punjabi folk singers due to it being heavily influenced in Britain by the infusion of rock music" (1)
